Summary/Abstract: The author of this study tries to outline the problem of regionalism as a structural aspect in Czech literature. He has chosen two authors and their novels, Jan Kobzáň's U počátků vod and Vaculík's Sekyra. The specific structural elements that he analyses were used in different ways by Kobzáň and Vaculík. The former tried to find his roots in the folklore of the people who lived in Wallachia. The latter tried to define his own personal history by exploring the life of his father. Both came to the same conclusion: the life of each of us is defined by the landscape that we live in.
