Summary/Abstract: This article explores the transformative power of philosophy and impediments to it, concentrating on philosophy’s relations with Christianity not only in the past but also today. Drawing on philosophical practice, on testimonies of philosophers, on recent research and conclusions from it, and on moral philosophy as a test case, it enquires into the viability of the autonomy of philosophy as a requirement for its transformative power to be rekindled.
