Summary/Abstract: The aim of this study is to examine interest in music and arts education among pupils with visual impairments in Slovakia, with particular attention to opportunities for their future professional involvement in music-related fields and to the potential contribution of music education to their social inclusion. The study examines the current provision of music education for learners with visual impairments at primary art schools and conservatoires in Slovakia, as well as the factors affecting its quality. Particular attention is paid to the use of Braille music notation in current music education practice. The theoretical part of the paper addresses key aspects of music education for learners with visual impairments, including the role of Braille music notation and the potential applications of modern music technologies. The empirical part adopts a qualitative research design based on data collected through interviews and explores participants’ interest in music and arts education. The interview data were analysed using content analysis to provide a more comprehensive understanding of the issues under investigation. The findings indicate declining interest in music education among people with visual impairments. At the same time, they highlight the importance of music and its integral role in the education and lives of people with visual impairments. Music education may contribute to the development of intrinsic motivation and musical interests and may also play a role in shaping future educational and career choices.
