Summary/Abstract: An area not thoroughly enough discussed in Hungarian tourism research is accessible tourism; a change in this is only visible in the recent years, by a few researchers starting to focus on the study of this issue. The authors present, based on the findings of a questionnaire survey, the frequency of travels by people living with disabilities and a few important characteristics of their travel demands. Besides summarising the Hungarian literature of the field, authors also give an introduction to the most important findings of international literature. The issue of accessible tourism concerns approximately 10% of the population of Europe, so in addition to the social and moral significance of the issue, serving the travel needs people living with disabilities is also significant for the economy. In order to create the special supply and to provide equal access of services for those concerned, their expectations and special consumer habits must be known. The authors, in collaboration as project experts in an Erasmus project called Peer Act, also present research findings of 4 other project partner countries (Germany, Italy, Spain and Croatia).
