Summary/Abstract: The text examines Bertolt Brecht’s presence in cinema, tracing its various dimensions and gradually focusing on the aesthetic influence of Brechtian principles on Peter Greenaway’s film The Cook, the Thief, His Wife & Her Lover (1989).The main analytical approach is the use of space and its different topographical manifestations. Space is considered not merely as a neutral setting, but as an active semiotic and dramaturgical element that structures the narrative and produces meaning. The restaurant functions as a theatrical stage of power, control, and consumption. Its peripheral spaces – the restroom, the bakery, the kitchen, the storage rooms, and the delivery trucks – become distinctive counter-spaces in which desire, resistance, and the possibility of change emerge.
