Summary/Abstract: The article comprehensively reconstructs reflections of the so-called Nonsite schoolon the issues of intention and autonomy in literature. Drawing on texts by Walter BennMichaels, Todd Cronan, Nicholas Brown, and Jennifer Ashton, the author describes howthese researchers arrived at the thesis of the immanent nature of intention (derived froma detailed reading of Elizabeth Anscombe’s philosophical works), demonstrating its mostcrucial consequences. One of the fundamental consequences involves the recognitionof intention itself as the source of the autonomy of literature and art. As invariable inthe course of commodity circulation, intention appears as the only element of the workof art inherently resistant to commodification – which bears significant aesthetic andpolitical consequences.
