Summary/Abstract: This article examines dissociative literature (also referred to as depressive literature or unhinged girl fiction) – a contemporary, maladic literary genre that foregrounds the voices of “mad” women – as a space for feminist, posthumanist, and utopian narratives (as defined by Muñoz). Drawing on an analysis of magical realist and horror motifs in the novels Nightbitch, Bunny, and Motherthing, it demonstrates how dissociative literature performs an aesthetic subversion of neurodiversity. The author emphasises its potential to create alternative narratives and imagine new worlds that move beyond assimilationist and neoliberal visions of neurodiversity in contemporary culture.
