The Principle of Universal Suffrage and its Guarantees in Lithuanian Electoral Law

Summary/Abstract: The aim of the article is to present the essence of the principle of universal suffrage of the election law, to present its genesis in the Lithuanian law and to characterise the particular guarantees adopted by the Lithuanian legislator. The article evaluates the legal regulations guaranteeing the application of the principle of universal suffrage the election law in the Republic of Lithuania. The analysis proved that the statutory guarantees in force in Lithuania enable the largest possible number of eligible voters to exercise their right to vote. The implementation of the research aims was made possible by the research methods used. The dogmatic-legal method is predominant among them. The historical-legal method and the descriptive method were also used.
