Summary/Abstract: Jewish diplomat and philosopher Josephus Flavius represents an important landmark in the historiography of Antiquity through the detailed and unique way in which he describes the Jewish world during the time when the Son of God lived on Earth. Without him, the books about the history of the New Testament era would have been much thinner. Over time, opinions about his life and work have varied considerably, making him an even more fascinating figure for those passionate about the historiography of the second half of the 1st century AD. What engages the attention in this study is the fact that the Jewish historian’s work was regarded and preserved by the early Christians as a true paraphrase of Scripture, serving as a precious alternative and complementary source for the history of the era in which Jesus Christ lived on Earth and during which the first Christian communities were established.
