Summary/Abstract: The aim of the study is to present – also by using selected examples – the political consequences of the “screenification” (“visualisation”) of the cultural reality around us. The main research problem can be reduced to the question: what does the thesis, according to which we live in a world dominated by technical images, nowadays most often networked by the space of the Internet, mean in the political context? In these analyses I refer to the tradition of media philosophy, including figures such as Vilém Flusser and Régis Debray. Philosophical diagnoses of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries suggest that we live in a time in which all our individual hopes and fears, but also social utopias and ideologies, have been “screened”, housed in the planes of ubiquitous screens. If this assumption is correct, it means that the battle for the rule of people’s minds today takes place on a Facebook “wall” and a TV series set, rather than in the parliament hall. I test this assumption in relation to popular culture images as, firstly, a carrier for political ideologies and, secondly, a tool for electoral campaigns. The space of visual social communication of recent decades has led to some important changes in the political sphere and technical images have blurred the line between (media) fiction and (political) reality, making, for example, fictional popular culture images the source of electoral decisions in Western societies. Therefore, a holistic approach to the phenomena of contemporary politics must consider not only the traditional political science perspective, but also a mediological one.
