Summary/Abstract: Noam Chomsky has been accused of having a naive understanding of politics. He remains faithful to his political views even at the age of 96, which does not prevent him, according to commentators, from still speaking hard truths. What would these ‘hard truths’ of naive political theory reduced to propaganda and public relations consist of today? What do they say about ‘the engineering of consent’ on the Internet – where to look for it and how to identify its mechanisms in order to defend against it? The author of this article reconstructs the genealogy of Chomsky’s concept of politics and the media, and critically analyses his metatheoretical approaches to social studies, especially political science. He tests the veracity/accuracy of this concept in relation to democracy and capitalism under the conditions of digital civilisation and the domination of global platforms. He poses the perverse hypothesis that Chomsky’s views on media and politics are naïve, but in their naivety not devoid of criticism, truthfulness and timelessness – they contain evergreen content.
