Summary/Abstract: This paper introduces the concept of legal design as an increasingly popular and developing trend that is of interest to linguists, sociologists, psychologists, graphic designers, social activists, civil servants and politicians. The text discusses the reasons for the popularity of legal design, its characteristics, selected definitions, development and dissemination, using the examples of Finland, Estonia and Germany. The conclusion points to the need for greater involvement of lawyers, especially legal theorists, in legal design processes, bearing in mind the need to create citizen-friendly law that is as easy to understand as possible, not only thanks to its form of presentation (which is the domain of legal design representatives) but also thanks to the legal solutions and structures used.
