Summary/Abstract: An employee who reports or publicly discloses violations of the law is protected from the time of the report or public disclosure if he or she had reasonable grounds to believe that the information that is the subject of the report or public disclosure is true at the time of the report or public disclosure and that it constitutes information about a violation of the law. A whistleblower who duly fulfils his or her duties makes the decision to report a violation with a sense of honesty and conscientiousness. Behaviour that violates these standards is not protected. The question that may arise concerns whether is the only consequence of acting in bad faith, and whether the employee may incur either employment or disciplinary liability?
