Summary/Abstract: The "networked" popular culture of the 21st century allows children to enter the world of "various qualities" that are the dimensions of pop culture activity. It has a developmental character consisting in a reflective entry into the world of products and messages, but also leads to a thoughtless falling into consumerism, following social, reasonable trends and succumbing to manipulation. The article aimed to characterise the reception of popular culture of contemporary children through the online space, on the example of the impact of the work of the "Mako" ensemble on the experiences of children aged 9-10 and their parents. The qualitative research was based on individual interviews (not very directed, focused on the problem). Four boys aged 9-10 and their parents were interviewed. There were two complementary methods of data collection chosen: secondary source analysis and participant observation. Research shows that through the activities of the Mako Ensemble, children construct active attitudes towards musical creation, open up to social contacts and learn to experience emotions and communicate them. In addition, children establish relationships with artists using the same language codes and experiencing the same problems. However, they are exposed to the influence of consumerism and manipulation in order to follow the thoughtless fashion for nonsensical trends. A significant threat to their development and social functioning may be: hate speech in the space of online messengers; low linguistic and artistic level of the presented works - not subject to children's interpretation.
