Developing Students’ Specific Competences for History through the Study of Romanian National Unity

Summary/Abstract: The issue of Romanian national unity remains a sensitive one for our society. The duty of teachers, especially history teachers, is to provide the students with an opportunity to discover historical truths independently and to arrive to their own conclusions concerning the historical events under scrutiny. This may be achieved through the study and analysis of a number of primary sources. The authors describe their approach to the development of the following specific competence in History: Critical and objective appraisal of historical contexts, events, and processes, which is achieved by studying the subject The National Liberation Movement of the Romanians of Bessarabia, 1917-1918. The Unification of Bessarabia with Romania.
