Personal Development as a School Subject: A Response to Social Realities and a Challenge for Educators

Summary/Abstract: Personal Development as a school subject is the answer to the need to educate the pupils’ personalities through a continuously changing social and economic environment. The modular approach allows the teacher to emphasize some vital aspects of personal development, which makes the pupil of today and the adult of tomorrow to better understand himself and interact with others, to explore his personal, social, and natural resources, inhabiting and building a sustainable life environment, planning a future career and being able to integrate professionally, adopting a healthy lifestyle and ensuring his own safety and the safety of those around him, as well as physical, spiritual, and emotional integrity. This course is an answer to educational policy stipulations, yet at the same time it is a challenge for the educators, because its educational message cannot be built based on science alone, but has to derive from everyday life.
