Summary/Abstract: The study focuses on the figure of Father Karel Pavel Janeček and the distinctive socio‑cultural environment that developed around his activities in the Šumava region, particularly in Železná Ruda and Velhartice. Rather than providing a purely biographical account, the article interprets Janeček’s life and work as a contribution to the understanding of informal cultural and intellectual networks in post‑war Czechoslovakia. Through the heuristic concept of a “Šumava cultural salon,” the text analyses the rural parsonage as a site of encounter for artists, intellectuals, and members of the cultural elite, whose relationships were grounded in personal ties, shared values, and cultural interests. The study is based on correspondence, personal papers, memoir literature, and oral testimonies, which enable the reconstruction of everyday cultural practices as well as the mechanisms of informal communities operating under conditions of political constraint. The case of Father Janeček is thus presented as an example of the importance of individual agency, regional settings, and non‑institutional forms of cultural communication in the cultural history of the second half of the twentieth century.
