Summary/Abstract: In their book “Nic mnie już tu nie trzyma”. Emigracja Aleksandra Forda do Izraela na tle wydarzeń Marca 1968 w kinematografii polskiej [“Nothing Holds Me Here Anymore”: Aleksander Ford’s Emigration to Israel Against the Backdrop of the March 1968 Events in Polish Cinema] (2025), Karol Szymański and Grzegorz Piotrowski describe Ford’s involvement In the film industry of the Polish People’s Republic in the 1960s, particularly in ‘film units’ (state-controlled production studios), the increasing number of attacks against him, the culmination of the anti-Semitic propaganda campaign in 1968, and finally his forced emigration. The authors do not shy away from offering their own assessment of the situation; they often defend their protagonist, presenting him in a different light to usual, whilst endeavouring to put forward specific arguments. They also examine the erasure and reinstatement of his image in the public sphere. By focusing on his story, they offer a well-documented account of the political and institutional dimensions of Polish cinema of the 1960s. The reviewer points out that the organisation and verification of numerous facts is one of the book’s greatest strengths, and that the authors themselves have demonstrated an excellent knowledge of the sources and the ability to analyse them critically.
