Summary/Abstract: Human factors contribute a critical part to personnel security and information security, as security effectiveness relies not only on technical and organizational measures but fundamentally on human behavior, decision-making, and organizational culture. This article discusses humans as both risk and protective factors, putting emphasis on the impact of psychological influences, insider threats, leadership, and security culture. It investigates the relationship of personnel and information security and concludes that sustainable security can be only achieved by considering human competencies, ethical values, training and technical safeguards within a holistic security framework.
