Summary/Abstract: In the science of Qur’anic exegesis (tafsir), controversial issues refer to subjects on which no definitive conclusion can be reached due to differences in transmitted reports and methodological approaches. The issue of the last revealed verses (ākhiru mā nazala) is among these debated topics because various narrations identify different verses as the final revelation. This study examines the exegetical methodology applied to the verses cited within the scope of ākhiru mā nazala. It analyzes how exegetes evaluated narrations, related them to textual context, and developed interpretationcentered approaches in their commentaries. The findings show that the discussion of the last revealed verses is connected less to the direct interpretation of the Qur’an than to broader fields of Qur’anic studies, including the gradual process of revelation, the arrangement of verses and surahs, abrogation, and the determination of legal rulings. Nevertheless, in cases supported by strong narrations, such as the verse declaring the completion of religion, transmitted reports often played a decisive role in interpretation. The study investigates the place of eight verses and one surah identified as the final revelation within the tafsir tradition and highlights the use of methodological tools such as reconciliation, combination, preference, relative finality, and suspension of judgment in resolving apparent contradictions. In conclusion, the issue of ākhiru mā nazala should not be regarded merely as a chronological question. Rather, it reflects an effort to understand the final message through which revelation reached completion. The inability to determine a single definitive last verse has contributed to interpretive diversity and methodological richness within the tafsir tradition.
