Summary/Abstract: Human rights represent the foundation of the democratic legal order and are the expression of the recognition of the inherent dignity of each person. The evolution of contemporary society, marked by globalization, technological development, armed conflicts, migration and profound social transformations, requires a permanent reassessment of the mechanisms for the protection of fundamental rights and freedoms. This study aims to analyze the concept and evolution of human rights, the international, European and national legal framework to guarantee them, as well as the main challenges generated by current realities. The research is based on the normative analysis of the main international and European legal instruments, the examination of the specialized doctrine and the capitalization of the relevant jurisprudence in the matter. At the same time, the role of national and international institutions in ensuring respect for fundamental rights and the need to maintain a balance between protecting the public interest and guaranteeing individual freedoms are highlighted. The study highlights that the effectiveness of protection mechanisms depends both on the existence of a coherent normative framework and on its effective application through public authorities and courts. In conclusion, respect for human rights is an indispensable condition for strengthening the rule of law, democracy and a society based on freedom, equality and justice.
