Summary/Abstract: From the perspective of museums and universities, it is important that museums strive to reach out to university students. Students visit institutions not only to spend their free time, but also to advance their studies by taking advantage of the opportunities offered by museums. University students represent a special target group for museums, as they can be considered potential partners. The research aimed to explore the museum-visiting habits of Hungarian students at the University of Pécs (UP). Within the theoretical framework, cultural sociology studies and the characteristics of museum-related cultural consumption help to understand the museum visiting habits and needs of university students. This is complemented by empirical research conducted among students at the University of Pécs. The online questionnaire survey examined the museum visiting behaviours of UP students. The population consists of all Hungarian students at the University of Pécs, including both full-time and part-time students. Data collection took place between June 2, 2025, and June 20, 2025, using a random sampling method. The 103 student responses revealed that most respondents visit museums annually or less frequently. Respondents typically visit museums for leisure purposes. The responses help to form a picture of the purposes of museum visits by UP students and provide insight into the differences in habits between university students studying at different faculties.
