Summary/Abstract: The smart city concept concerns many aspects of urban life, including modern technologies, urban planning and economic development, sustainable development and the environment, as well as energy networks and social participation. In this article, the author's aim is to outline the development process of the smart city concept and to answer the question of what role and significance smart technologies have to play within it in the 21st century.
