Summary/Abstract: Legal education is action directed at the educational aspect of the individual through the undertaking of various educational activities. For their own effectiveness, they must be intentional and conscious, not accidental and chaotic, which is why legal education is carried out especially by the state within the school environment. Such actions are preventive rather than reactive in nature, and therefore do not constitute a form of state reaction to already-occurring manifestations of demoralisation and violations of the regulations in force in the state that have already taken place. They form part of preventive activity aimed at making the individual aware of the consequences of potentially committing certain acts, the result of which is meant to be the abandonment of such acts. State prevention in the form of legal education constitutes here a subsidiary complement to the repressive functions of the law. Knowledge about the law conveyed by teachers is supplemented by the activities of other persons and institutions aimed at raising the legal awareness of society, such as the Ministry of Justice or private individuals. Nevertheless, despite numerous efforts, these must still be considered insufficient. The shortage of knowledge about basic legal institutions is significant, as shown by the survey research presented in the article.
