Summary/Abstract: This article, dealing with the linguistic, communicative and social competences of residents of youth educational centres (MOW), considers the language competences of socially maladjusted youth in the aspect of crime prevention. The concepts of communication, linguistic competence, and communicative and social competences are discussed. The results of research on speech disorders are presented. It was analysed whether these disorders occur in the studied group of youth from MOW facilities, what they are associated with, and whether there is a relationship between areas of linguistic correctness (speech defects, pronunciation errors, auditory memory, narrative ability). It was analysed whether the linguistic skills of the subjects are differentiated by age, gender, the number/length of stays at the centre, and characteristics of the family environment. The relationship between speech defects and passive and active vocabulary was also examined, as well as the relationship between articulatory correctness and the frequency of psychoactive substance use declared by the subjects.
