Summary/Abstract: The article attempts to present selected concepts of social, economic and technological change as sources of inspiration for the development of media education. The authors refer, among others, to the concepts of the knowledge society, the global village, technocracy, prefigurative culture, the information age, and the post-industrial and information society. Analysing these and other cited concepts, they note that today the key concept inspiring the development of the social sciences, including media pedagogy, appears to be Manuel Castells' concept of the network society, showing the effects of the fourth technological revolution and the emergence of a new type of society and culture in the age of the Internet, the global network that has enveloped the world. This concept opens up new cognitive perspectives arising from the challenges brought by digital transformation processes.
