An overview of the Institution of the Family in our times. Moral and existential issues and perspectives

Summary/Abstract: Although family has proven its importance for human society, nowadays it comes under harsh attack by various ideologies. A contemporary family has to face adversity and a lot of hardships. This paper points out the motives behind the gradual disintegration of family in the twenty-first century. Today’s families have to overcome tremendous challenges. On one hand a traditional family is a nuclear unit: parents (male and female) and children. On the other hand, a "modern" family is a diverse family (same-sex couples, cohabiting partners, etc.). My paper underscores that family is a sine qua non for the survival of humankind. Family is a source of stability, morality and strength for children.
