FIRST AID IN THE POLISH PENITENTIARY SYSTEM: LEGAL AND PRACTICAL ASPECTS

Summary/Abstract: This publication addresses the issue of providing first aid in penitentiary institutions and remand centres. It constitutes a kind of basic legal and practical guide. The current professional training programme in first aid is presented, along with proposals for changes in this area. The article presents a framework procedure for the case of the need to rescue a person who has committed an act of self-harm. The scope of this publication does not allow for an in-depth exploration of the medical and case-law nuances concerning first aid provided by Prison Service officers, but it may serve as an introduction to a more in-depth discussion of this topic.
