PREVENTIVE ACTIVITIES IN THE PRISON SERVICE – INFORMATION AND THE SECURITY SYSTEM OF THE PENITENTIARY UNIT IN A NEW NORMATIVE APPROACH

Summary/Abstract: Information determines the actions of each of us, so considering it in the field of security seems a natural and even necessary undertaking. Using such a potentially effective tool makes it possible to avoid losses and eliminate crisis situations. For this reason, penitentiary institutions and remand centres, where the state of threat can in a sense be considered permanent, are a special place from the point of view of the use of information. The paper presents solutions envisaged for the Prison Service in the area of information understood as preventive activities. This activity and its significance are reflected in the fact that it is carried out every day by the entire penitentiary staff. The conclusions presented at the end should be a starting point for further discussion in this area, and perhaps a determinant for undertaking research shedding light on this difficult element of the functioning of all penitentiary institutions and remand centres in Poland.
