Summary/Abstract: This article presents the history, role and perception of the work of court probation officers in Ireland, with a look at the context of probation in Poland. It reviews the tasks, duties, expectations and effects of probation officers' work, historical and current practices, and describes the evolution of the Irish probation system, including changes in social attitudes, legal frameworks and professionalisation, alongside an outline of Polish probation issues. In Poland, the comprehensive activities of probation officers improve the functioning of children, juveniles and adults depending on their situation.
