Summary/Abstract: Th e penitential prayers of Ezra-Nehemiah refer specifi cally to the dialog or speech with God in which a person on behalf of the chosen people confesses sins asking for forgiveness and mercy from the Lord God, as well as for the forgiveness of all transgressions, and the restoration of spiritual connection with Him. In this paper I intend to present the main Hebrew terms of the penitential theology of Ezdra-Nehemiah in order to better understand the genre and style used by the authors or editors of the books and the penitential prayers themselves.
