Summary/Abstract: Coursebooks are among the primary instructional materials designed to develop learners' language skills in teaching Turkish as a foreign language. Educational games included in these materials support the learning process by enabling learners to use the target language in meaningful communicative contexts. However, comparative studies examining educational games included in Turkish as a foreign language coursebooks remain limited. Therefore, this study aims to compare the educational games included in the Yeni İstanbul A1–A2 and Kolay Gelsin! neu A1–A2 coursebook series. The study was conducted within the framework of qualitative research. The data were collected through document analysis and analysed using content analysis. Educational games were evaluated according to their frequency, game types, target language skills, interaction patterns, game structures, and instructional functions. The findings revealed a total of 33 educational games across the two coursebook series. Of these, 24 were identified in the Yeni İstanbul series and 9 in the Kolay Gelsin! neu series. The findings indicate that the Yeni İstanbul series predominantly includes puzzle, vocabulary-search, and guessing games that reinforce vocabulary learning, whereas the Kolay Gelsin! neu series places greater emphasis on role-play, simulation, and progression games designed to develop communicative language use. Furthermore, educational games in the Yeni İstanbul series are distributed across both the coursebooks and workbooks, whereas those in the Kolay Gelsin! neu series are found only in the coursebook. In conclusion, the findings demonstrate that the two coursebook series employ educational games in line with different pedagogical priorities. The results are expected to contribute to coursebook development and material evaluation studies in the field of teaching Turkish as a foreign language.
