Summary/Abstract: The study examines the main patterns of measures aimed at enhancing church singing within the Olonets Eparchy. The relevance of the topic stems from the unique and enduring liturgical significance of church singing, both during the period under study and in contemporary practice. The novelty of the research is determined by the absence of prior studies on this subject, particularly drawing on materials from northern eparchies. The key findings are as follows: analysis of the consistory’s office records and articles in the eparchial press reveals that both spiritual authorities and laypeople consistently and persistently demanded the clergy to adhere to standards of “decorum” in liturgical practice (with these demands being similar in form and content). Influenced by steadily growing demands from both church leadership and laity, church singing became a vital component in clergy training, was incorporated as a mandatory subject in parish schools, and offered significant opportunities for nurturing musical talents among adult parishioners. A major trend in the development of choral music within the eparchy has been the active engagement of a large number of parishioners in full participation during services through regular collective singing alongside clergy.
