Summary/Abstract: My study follows the analysis of a few of the most interesting and appropriate performances in Romania after 1990, made on Eugène Ionesco’s plays. The performances that I have chosen are consistent scenic versions based on the theatrical substance of the plays, nourrished by their structural generosity. These are options that prove the possibilty of always reinterpreting Ionesco’s plays. The scenic versions are signed by some of the most valuable scene directors from Romania: Mihai Măniuţiu (The Lesson, «Lucian Blaga» National Theatre Cluj- Napoca), Tompa Gabor (The Bold Singer, «Lucian Blaga» National Theatre and Hungarian State Theatre Cluj-Napoca), Victor Ioan Frunză (The Lesson, «Csiki Gherghely» Hungarian Theatre Timişoara), Alexandru Dabija (5 Small Pieces, Odeon Theatre Bucureşti; The Bold Singer, German State Theatre Timişoara).
