Summary/Abstract: The article discusses those aspects of literary criticism traditions that are associated with the figure of the master. It compares three older generation critics who entered the 1990s as authorities. All three were associated with different environments and worldviews. And the story of how their presence and absence in the field of literature has been changing across the years allows one to analyze the problems, entanglements, ruptures, and intertwinings of not only contemporary criticism but also literature.
