Summary/Abstract: One of the main human traits is the drive for constant change aimed at improving living conditions through innovation. Based on major inventions, certain historical periods are referred to as industrial revolutions: the first is named after the invention of the steam engine; the second after the introduction of alternating electric current in factories and households; the third after the introduction of electronics, robotics, and cybernetics into industry; and the fourth (Industry 4.0) is characterized by the emergence of artificial intelligence, which blurs the boundaries between the physical, digital, and biological worlds. In this scientific paper, the focus is placed on elaborating issues related to the concept, origin, and importance of artificial intelligence for the economy and society, as well as on pointing out the dangers and risks it entails. For this reason, the need has arisen for legal regulation of all matters related to artificial intelligence, starting from the United Nations and the European Union, and finally at the level of countries’ national legislation. Following the example of European Union practice, Serbia has already adopted several partial laws regulating certain issues related to artificial intelligence, such as personal data protection, dual education, innovation activity, information security, intellectual property protection, etc. A specific law regulating artificial intelligence is expected to be adopted soon. However, Serbia has already adopted a general Strategy for the Development of Artificial Intelligence for the period 2025 -2030, as well as specific strategies in individual areas: industrial policy, education, the development of digital skills, public information, the development of information society, etc. In recent years, Serbia has been intensively working on building the necessary infrastructure to support the introduction of artificial intelligence, such as the Data Centre in Kragujevac and science and technology parks in several cities. Finally, the paper contains a brief overview of financial products that employ artificial intelligence, such as payment transactions, the SEPA payment system with the EU, the use of payment cards, open banking, and others, and this is followed by the conclusion and a list of references and other sources used.
