Summary/Abstract: Józef Chociszewski is usually associated with the publications addressed to the general public, including journals and short stories. However, this “most diligent from among Greater Poland citizens”, as he used to be called, could also boast of quite a number of dramatic works. Unfortunately, this context has been often disregarded, most probably as it was related to some difficult questions, e.g. referring to genology, or to attempts at evaluation of his works of this kind. Although in his dramatic works he resigned from the pursuit of originality and repeated the traditional well-accepted patterns, although his works were far from excellence and showed intrusive tendencies, stereotypes, used exploited theatrical effects and motifs, they were issued and presented on stage many times. Their undeniable advantage was the fact that they responded to the very needs of amateurish theatres from the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries.
