The Problem of Protecting Former Nazi Labor Camps in the Owl Mountains

Summary/Abstract: In the Owl Mountains of Lower Silesia, numerous relics of Nazi labour camps associated with the so-called Riese complex remain. These relics are a testament to Nazi crimes. Traces of the former camp buildings are still visible. These structures lack any legal protection, including conservation. Construction projects and illegal searches for historical monuments pose a real threat to these disappearing and forgotten structures. It is urgent to provide legal protection for these sites and to undertake interdisciplinary research.
