Summary/Abstract: The year 1925 marked the beginning of the colonization of the Aromanians in Dobruja. Aromanian communities were colonized in southern Dobruja, namely in the counties of Caliacra and Durostor, in localities with Bulgarian and Turkish populations. In 1940, Southern Dobruja (Cadrilaterul) was returned to Bulgaria, at which point the Romanian Kingdom had to recolonize the Aromanian communities in Northern Dobruja. The colonization of the Aromanians took shape around the population exchange between Romania and Bulgaria agreed upon in the Romanian-Bulgarian treaty signed in Craiova on September 7, 1940. The Aromanians were also colonized in the localities where the Dobrujan Germans had lived for a century. The German communities in Dobruja migrated to German territory under the Romanian-German treaty of 1940.
