Summary/Abstract: Lacanian psychoanalysis concentrates on the clinical structure of the subject rather than symptom or symptom groups and focus on unconscious desire. However, Lacan states that symptoms stand for unconscious metaphors and are structured like language which is the only way of studying unconscious. Concordantly, Lacan points out that it is of utmost importance to take heed of the subjectivity in the face of a symptom. Therefore, it is crucial to answer following questions when evaluating the symptom: "What is the function of the symptom for the subject?", “What is the symptom trying to regulate in the subject’s relation to jouissance?” and “Which problem does the symptom answer in the subject’s relation to the Other?”. Anorexia nervosa is characterized by the subject’s intentional starvation and fear of gaining weight. In this regard, rather than approaching it as an eating disorder that needs to be eliminated, it is considered necessary to question its function and meaning for the subject. In the Lacanian approach, in cases where the subject is traumatically reduced to the object position, anorexia nervosa is defined as a subjective way of avoiding the state of intense jouissance. In such a case, the subject refuses the satisfaction of the need, that is, by eating nothingness, thus creating a lack over her body and trying to maintain her position as the subject. In addition, the subject can only cope with anorexia nervosa with the anxiety created by this phenomenon. In this study, anorexia nervosa is examined within the framework of Lacanian clinical structures, anxiety, and desire, through the language of a patient undergoing an analytically oriented therapy process.
