Summary/Abstract: The study attempts to examine the perspective on mimesis in classical Turkish poetry, based on poets' approach to depiction in sculpture and painting. In the context of Islamic art theory, classical Turkish poets approach mimesis as a mode of representing nature and reality through imitation.. It can be said that this attitude of poets was influenced not only by religious reservations but also by an effort to grasp the essence of existence and attain truth. In order to ascertain this, the study focuses on the expressions used by poets when incorporating sculpture and painting, which can be considered reflections of mimesis in the visual arts, into their poetry. Poetic descriptions are evaluated in comparison with visual representations from this perspective. Discussions surrounding the concept of mimesis in the poets' approach to painting and common points that can be paralleled with Islamic art aesthetics are noteworthy. While the captivating effect of painting and sculpture in poetry is acknowledged, the drawbacks of these mimesis-based depictions focusing solely on the material dimension of existence create a certain distance, yet poetry's superiority over other art forms as a legitimate art form is frequently emphasised. When selecting poems, based on the possibility of generalising the themes in classical Turkish poetry, verses from different poets were used as evidence, and no need was felt to limit the selection to a specific period. The main aim of the article is to contribute to the literature by discussing, within a theoretical framework, the poets' approach to mimesis and the strong links between poetic depictions and Islamic artistic thought.
