EFFECTS OF RAW MATERIAL FROM THE BOLU KARCA–KABAK PLATEAU ON CERAMIC BODY PROPERTIES

Summary/Abstract: The physical, chemical, and structural properties of a stone outcropping in the Karca–Kabak Plateau area within Bolu Province were examined, and it was identified as a volcanic rock. Based on its mineralogical structure and rich composition, the influence of this material on ceramic body properties was investigated. The volcanic rock obtained from the plateau was designated as a raw material in the study. Its chemical composition was determined through XRF analysis, and its color changes and melting behavior at selected firing temperatures were observed. The effects of the material on ceramic bodies were evaluated in light of the experimental findings. This research represents the first scientific assessment of a local natural resource that had not previously been used in any field. The experiments and analyses demonstrated the material’s potential for integration into ceramic production processes. Furthermore, it is considered that the raw material sourced from the region where the volcanic rocks are located may contribute to the diversification and expansion of application areas in ceramic art and industrial production. These findings indicate that the material’s unique mineralogical characteristics could support innovative formulations, enhance performance in high-temperature applications, and provide additional functional possibilities for both traditional and contemporary ceramic technologies today.
