Summary/Abstract: Musahiplik (spiritual brotherhood) is a significant institutional tradition within the Alevi-Bektashi belief system, rooted in the spiritual bond between the Prophet Muhammad and Imam Ali. This tradition is based on the hadith “Ya Ali, lahmika lahmi, dammika dammi...” (“O Ali, your flesh is my flesh, your blood is my blood…”), which emphasizes their spiritual and physical unity. This hadith has been frequently cited in both folk and Classical Turkish literature as an expression of devotion and reverence toward Imam Ali. In the Alevi-Bektashi path, musahiplik is a spiritually demanding and honorable rank, and abandoning it is believed to have profound moral consequences. Both Sunni and Alevi poets have referenced this tradition in folk poetry, focusing on its ethical principles, spiritual discipline, and ritual practices. Although Classical Turkish literature is primarily Sunni-oriented, respect and affection for Imam Ali are clearly evident. In oral tradition, narratives concerning the origin of musahiplik often stem from this hadith. This study examines the institution of musahiplik, its theological foundations, and its literary reflections, particularly through examples drawn from the classical poetic tradition, all centered around the aforementioned hadith.
