Summary/Abstract: In order to properly understand the political developments in Türkiye, it is insufficient to consider only the only thr the country’s internal dynamics. It is also necessary to take international conditions and the perspectives of other states into account. For this reason, this article evaluates the political developments in Türkiye between 1946 and 1960 in light of British documents. The new international order that emerged after World War II accelerated Türkiye's transition to a multi-party system. Following this transition, the Democratic Party came to power in 1950. The Democratic Party was seen as a new hope for Türkiye and the Western world. , However, over time, the Democratic Party's authoritarian stance and its pressure on the opposition and the press reversed the positive impression it had initially made. The UK closely followed developments in Türkiye. The British also assessed these developments through diplomatic reports. This study compares and analyses British Foreign Office intelligence reportsalongside the British press and local sources from that period. In this context, the studyt attempts to reveal how the Democratic Party era was approached and interpreted from the a British perspective and the extent to which it had decisive effects on domestic and foreign relations.
