Summary/Abstract: Although very little information is available about him, Yunus Emre is one of the most powerful pioneers of Turkish Sufi poetry. Estimated to have lived between the second half of the 13th century and the beginning of the 14th century, Yunus Emre lived in Anatolia during a time period when the Anatolian Seljuk State began to dissolve, Mongol invasions were influential, and the Period of Principalities (Beyliks) was taking shape. His Divan (Collection of Poems) is his most important work, in which he gathered his poems on divine love, Sufism, love for humanity, moral advice, the perfect human (insan-ı kâmil), the unity of being (vahdet-i vücud), and the purification of the soul (nefis terbiyesi). In this study, the noun phrases formed within the framework of the concept of love through figurative transfer in the Divan of Yunus Emre have been examined in detail from semantic (meaning) and syntactic (structural) perspectives. The article attempts to reveal how the Turkish cognition and memory perceive and conceptualize love through the linguistic usages formed around the concept of love in Yunus Emre's poetic language. Accordingly, the identified noun phrases have been evaluated in terms of the relationships that love establishes with different conceptual domains. The findings obtained demonstrate that love in Yunus Emre's poetry is expressed within a conceptualization framework structured on the basis of cultural and cognitive linguistics.
