Summary/Abstract: This text highlights the importance of understanding violin structure and maintenance, focusing on the role of protective varnish. This varnish affects both the instrument’s resonance and durability, being composed of various combinations of oils, resins, and pigments. Identifying the varnish type helps de-termine proper cleaning methods and optimal storage conditions. Additionally, the type of wood and the instrument’s age are essential for selecting appropriate strings and shaping the bridge. The main var-nish types, their components, and preparation stages are presented. Differences between luthier traditions, illustrated by Stradivari, Vuillaume, and Stainer, demonstrate how varnish influences sound quali-ty. The conclusion emphasizes the performer’s responsibility in preserving the instrument, ensuring its longevity, and maintaining its artistic and acoustic value over time.
