Summary/Abstract: Assistive technologies include devices, systems, and aids designed to enhance, maintain, and improve the functional abilities of individuals with developmental disabilities. Their effective implementation largely depends on the competencies and attitudes of the professionals who use them. Given the increasing use of assistive technologies in contemporary rehabilitation practice, the aim of this study was to examine the competencies and attitudes of special education teachers and rehabilitation professionals regarding the use of assistive technologies when working with children with intellectual disabilities. The study included 33 special education and rehabilitation professionals employed in mainstream and special education institutions in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Data were collected through an online survey using the Attitudes Toward Assistive Technologies Scale and a Competency Questionnaire. The data were analyzed using SPSS software, applying both descriptive and inferential statistics, including the independent-samples t-test. The results indicate that the participants demonstrated a moderate level of competence in the use of assistive technologies and generally expressed positive attitudes toward their implementation in practice. Furthermore, a statistically significant difference in competency levels was found in favor of professionals employed in mainstream educational institutions. These findings highlight the importance of continuous professional development and competency enhancement to ensure the effective implementation of assistive technologies and to improve rehabilitation and educational practices.
