Summary/Abstract: Until World War II, the Seminary Library in Płock had one of the most valuable collections of 15th-century books in Poland. In 1941, these books were taken by the Germans to Königsberg and have not yet been returned to their rightful owner. This unprecedented theft of a historical book collection was called the reorganisation of libraries in South Prussia, and Płock was called the place of discovery of old documents of German culture. The collection included the collections of many prominent bibliophiles from the Płock church circle, such as Piotr Lubart, Piotr Dunin-Wolski, Mikołaj Bartnicki and Łukasz from Wilkanów, as well as works from monasteries of the Płock diocese that were dissolved in the 19th century. Thanks to an inventory compiled before World War II by Kazimierz Piekarski, we know that the lost collection was significant and valuable in terms of the authors of the works, their subject matter and, above all, the owners of the old printed books.
