The Power of the Hungarian Queens in the Mirror of Material Culture – Notes to a Book

Summary/Abstract: The definition of queenship and queens’ power is a rather complex task, since it cannot be sharply separated from the interpretation and essence of royal power. The question of its characteristics is a serious challenge, since there are relatively few and rather heterogeneous sources and records available from the period in question, from 11th-14th century Hungary. From this perspective, this paper examines, in the context of a recently published book, how the study of material culture can help to define queens’ power.
