Summary/Abstract: This paper explores how the trauma of maternal loss surfaces in Szilárd Borbély’s novel The Dispossessed (Nincstelenek). Moving beyond readings focused exclusively on impoverished childhood, it analyses the highly poetic passages centred on the mother. By examining these stylistic shifts alongside recurring imagery in Borbély’s wider poetic oeuvre, the study shows how the novel’s split narrative incorporates the overarching trauma of maternal death through intertextual traces.
